Jane Foley Ferraro
Artist Statement: It all goes back to looking through the viewfinder of a camera. I was smitten. To be able to compose a scene by selecting only those elements appealing to my aesthetic…this was pure joy. Over time I have explored many mediums and found my passion lies in painting. I love conjuring emotion and mood with color and texture in semi-abstract landscapes and seascapes. Focusing on an ever-changing horizon line has become an intuitive departure point in my work which hovers between realism and abstraction. Working in oil mixed with cold wax as well as acrylics, I describe my style as intuitive expressionism, preferring to access my memories and imagination, rather than reference materials, to create paintings that entice the viewer with their atmospheric effects.
I have been exhibiting my work in regional and national juried exhibitions since 1994. My work is included in the collection of The Savannah College of Art & Design, St. Bonaventure University and many private collections. Since retiring from my psychotherapy practice I am in my studios in East Aurora, NY and Naples, FL on a daily basis.
