The old bear actually began his love affair with wood as a 10 year old cub; carving wooden model cars. For much of his adult life woodworking was restricted to spare time cabinet making. Much of his inventiveness in woodworking had already been honed by working in technical theatre.
Gary’s interest in art was shown in college, taking several studio courses in panting. In middle age, the old drive for art resurfaced; now focused on sculpture. Gary obtained his first lathe in 1996 and soon joined the Chicago Woodturners, where an intensive learning period began.
