Shelly Walsh

Having spent almost my entire life exploring art through many different mediums, I have discovered that mosaic art fulfills my artistic needs more than any other medium. Although it has been around for centuries, I find mosaic art to be a unique and challenging form of fine art. Self expression comes more naturally for me with mosaics for many reasons. Having a detailed-oriented mind, I enjoy the challenges of organizing and shaping tiles to create the various patterns that give mosaics their overall charm. Although tedious and time consuming, the process is relaxing, similar to that of assembling a jigsaw puzzle. I have also found that I am far less inhibited when choosing colors and subject matter, and incorporating design elements into each piece. I can visualize the end result more clearly, which is usually necessary for a successful work of art. My artistic training and experience, as well as the satisfaction I get from working with my hands have made the transition to mosaics quite natural for me.
