Gail Gilson Pierce
Gail Gilson Pierce is inspired by the shapes, textures, movements, highlights and shadows of the natural world. From her North-woods studio, she creates art quilts bursting with the fresh hues of woodlands, lakeshores and natural gardens.
Pierce holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and works as a professional natural resource educator by day where she interprets North-woods natural history through hikes, talks and formal classroom presentations. Much of the rest of her time is spent gathering inspiration from the outdoors and interpreting what she sees through quilts detailed with piecing, fusing, painting and threadwork.
She has studied with national level instructors Natalie Sewell and Caryl Bryer Fallert. Their work, which is also inspired by the natural world, inspired Pierce to create movement, depth and luminosity in her own work.
Pierce has won numerous awards for her original quilt designs and her work has been accepted into international level juried competitions.
